Sabre Star . The SF-86 is a prototype long range heavy starfighter for the Lego Spaceforce. . Thank you for checking out my Lego creation! The Sabre Star is the latest prototype for a long range heavy starfighter in the Lego Spaceforce fleet. I began designing it sometime in spring 2012. The first thing I designed were the outboard engines. The shape was inspired by the fuselage of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek. I created the hexagonal main fuselage using Technic tri-axles inside at opposite alternating angles. After that it was just a matter of applying the body paneling and tapering down the front and back ends. The front scoop naturally fell into place and harkened back to the North American F-86 Sabre jet. Thus, it seemed appropriate to give homage. The front scoop feeds into the mini wave motion engine at the heart of the ship, which gives the Sabre Star its superior range over other starfighters in its class. Use of the cockpit pieces to enclose the main cannons turned out to be my favorite design idea on this model. After toying around with a 3rd dorsal engine I eventually settled on the twin tail configuration. I had to Brasso off the Jack Stone decals. It is too bad this piece wasn't produced more in other colors. A side view showing the stout stature of the SF-86. This semi-rear view offers a better look at the SF-86's mini wave motion engine. With canopy open. The canopy opens sideways using stacked finger hinges at opposing angles. Top view. Underside view with the landing gear up. The Sabre Star being put through its paces on the edge of earth's atmosphere.
