PER-1L - An Early Lunch . After months of exploration of the Perseus Cluster, the first planet has been located on which signs of life can be detected. This planet has been designated 'PER-1L'. A dropship with a crew of four has been dispatched to acquire samples for analysis and to establish a monitoring outpost. A remote rocky outcropping has been chosen as a safe location for this task. . After an incident-free landing, initial scans show no signs of danger. The hatch is opened, and the steps extended. Our first intrepid explorer has the honour of taking the first steps on PER-1L. The pilot remains safely on board the dropship, in case of the need for a hasty departure. Yup, he seems safe enough there :) The crew unload their gear from the ship, and prepare to begin their research. The team settle down to their studies and sample collection. Nearby, a dark form briefly breaks the surface of the viscous bubbling green liquid covering much of PER-1L's surface. Blissfully unaware of the commotion below them, our explorers continue with their work. They're planning on being back to base for an early lunch. It certainly looks like an early lunch will be taken by someone... or something... Completely and utterly inspired by David Alexander Smith's brilliant Outer Reach Research Team series. Classic Space is my favourite theme, and David's take on it has never failed to make me chuckle. I wanted to start a series involving the exploration and eventual colonization of a new planet, Neo Classic Space style. I thought there was no better way to begin my series than with this tribute to David and his unfortunate astronauts, hope you enjoy it :)
