NXT DraXTer #2 . NXT DraXTer #2, another dragster for racing the 5 meter track, #2 outperforms #1! . This is my second attempt at a dragster from a single NXT set. The dragster is again designed to drive 5 meters in the shortest time possible, but this time has two motors. Upfront I was not sure if the added power would outweigh the added mass, compared to the DraXTer #1. The fastest real run of #2 was in 2967 milliseconds as opposed to 3661 milliseconds for #1. I am still thinking about how to improve for a future #3: lighter batteries (LiIon) would help big time, but may be considered cheating. One of the things to try is to couple two motors to a differential with a single out axis driving both wheels. The first motor has gear 1:3 and the second 1:9 and the second is programmed to kick in later. This should give both force from the start as well as speed at the finish!? Let me know if you come up with a faster time/design. Also, if you happen to have the LEGO Lithium/Ion battery and build this model, please let me know what times you can clock by dropping me a comment. UPDATE The ChainRider and particularly the ChainRider XL are way faster, also on the 5 meter track, getting it down under 2.7 seconds. See their respective pages here on MOCpages. Build instructions are available from a photobucket subalbum at: NXT DraXTer Number Two, this time the pics are more or less in the proper order for building, just follow the picture numbers in a descending order to be sure.
