Lego Imperial Lambda-class Shuttle . Hello my good and goofy lego friends! I bring you a very special creation that took many hours indeed. Take in my best lego Lambda-class shuttle ever (I've made about 2 other subpar versions before). So you could consider this version 3 :). To answer some of your questions; yes those Imperial Insignas are decals printed out with my printer, I did not create them! But rather modified images I found on google to the right size. Next, I did turn to some unorthodox build techniques; to support the massive weight of the wings on either side with just 2 pins each!, I had to add white floss, yes floss, in a tied down fashion. See if you can spot it on the wings. Purists may not like this, but whatever, it does what lego could not. I had no choice, but to use some floss due to my use of those lovely round white technique pieces that shape the outer haul.
Moving on, some pictures do show lights! Yes, LEDs to be precise- 3 of them total connected to a 9V battery placed in the rear of the shuttle. 2 lights serve as running lights under the belly and 1 is placed inside the cockpit for some exceptional cool lighting. I even made a custom trigger that can be locked to keep the light on indefinitely. The only drawback with the lights is the wiring which does take up space in the main cargo compartment. But, as you might agree, the lights add a touch I could never fault.
As for pure lego creativity. I did go to the elaborate effort to make a gear system that would connect to the wings and fold them up or down. Well the gears do work... but the sheer weight of the wings cause total disconnection among the wing gears so that my efforts are rendered useless. Now the gears serve little more than detail. I tried, I really did, but lego gears have trouble with large amount of weight especially if you are trying to stick to a certain scale(minifig). What I can say works is the landing gear which ingeniously folds up into the underbelly completely. It is also strong enough, once locked, to support the entire ship's weight. I am very happy it came out that way and it was NOT easy.
Lastly, the cockpit is my fav. part of the ship because it retains considerable play value while still resembling the rights angles. You may not believe me, but only the 2 sharp angled plates are delicate, the rest is very well connected to the haul. The best feature of all is that it sits 4 minifigs with some room still to spare for the boarding ramp (not much though). Due to the height of the ship when in landing mode the clearance of right under the cockpit is not quite enough for a minifig to stand upright. He/she would really have to crouch, sorry ya Old Emperor! haha.
Ok then, well I hope you enjoy the pictures and ask questions if want, I will try to respond in some way. Also, the 2 white admirals you see have custom decals from Kominoian. So I do not take credit for them. As for the rest of the ship and crew, that's all lego and me baby. Thanks! .
