Central Asian Combine Gunship . Unadulterated fanboy-ness. . Inspired by the brown-and-tan vehicles in many of Keith Goldman's dioramas, primarily "Two Pits and a Pad" and "The Omicron Weekend". At first I thought these belonged to a resistance group rebelling against the Iron Reich, but then I found out that they were actually from something called the "Central Asian Combine"... whatever that is.
This was originally a very ambitious project with a lot of features -- such as a big troop bay, a VTOL engine, and hull panels which could be switched out allowing me to change the colors and style of the ship. Like most ambitious projects, it failed miserably. I have a cool exterior, a crappy cockpit, and a tiny little troop bay. Trust me, you don't want to see the VTOL engine.
A V.2 is in the works, but the estimated completion date is nebulous. It all depends on whether I can get my friend to trade for some 4X3X1 slopes -- the Assault Shuttle used them all up. I am planning to dismantle the Assault Shuttle over the summer, but not until the pieces for my next big ship arrive. Once that's gone I'll be able to build another large ship, a Variation on a Theme MOC, and maybe even some fighters.
[edit] V.2 has already been started. The central portion of the hull is mostly built although there are still some technical problems to be resolved. It should be done in a couple weeks.
Of course, I've probably gotten some minor detail wrong and now Keith is going to berate me for desecrating his theme. Or maybe just send his mom over to beat me up.
Top. Since everybody and his dog is making up their own theme, I guess I'll start my own. It's called "the Shape" and the rules are simple. "The Shape" is the basic design along which all but two of my space MOCs (Red Devil and the Screamer) have been built.
The rules:
1. The vehicle must be capable of atmospheric flight, or at least look like it's capable of atmospheric flight. FAST atmospheric flight, without resort to wimpy hover pads. Basically, it has to look like a supersonic jet.
2. The vehicle must be roughly triangular in shape. No forward-swept wings or fins are allowed. Straight wings are pushing it.
3. The vehicle needs to have at least one more set of fins than it would reasonably need.
Yes, I am voting for Keith as our LEGO ambassador. He's a well-established, long-standing member of the community, he's not afraid to speak his mind, and he can answer the red phone at 3AM. Or if he can't, his mom can... she's always up at 3AM.
Rear shot.
Retractable landing gear. That's another thing about the Shape, retractable landing gear is a must and wheels are strongly recommended.
