Why?
Dock Container Crane . Having developed a simple container system for my train set and town lorries the time came to construct a crane to move the containers from the lorries and the train (and boats, which I haven’t built). A number of attempts were made before this final model - many of the problems being caused by the weight of the containers hanging in mid air and pulling the crane over or pulling the cord/cable. This crane incorporates a simple gearing system on the container ‘cradle’ and makes the need for locking mechanisms redundant as it holds the weight of the container without any downward movement (Much to my relief!). The container ‘cradle’ is hung from rig that moves back and forward using the cables and the turning mechanism at the back of the frame. Unfortunately this is one of the main weaknesses of the moving parts of the model and some time in the future I will need to find an alternative to the system. .
