Why?
P.C.S. S.P.O.T. . Small Planet to Orbit Transport . The S.P.O.T. was created in response to PCS demands for a small shuttlecraft designed to carry cargo and passengers between planetary surfaces and orbiting stations or spacecraft. Pilots praised the small spacecraft's high thrust-to-mass ratio and maneuverability, and soon the little ship was seeing frontline service as an armed drop transport for P.C.S. Marines. Top view. It looks a little bit like the Classic-Space logo ship, and I might have entered it in the logo contest had I been able to build it when the contest was held. Side view. The ship is armed with a light FRAP cannon on a turret and two heavier FREEM cannons installed on the sides. Two small rockets are loaded under the wing hardpoints, but missile support is usually provided by fighters or S.P.O.T.s with missile packs installed in place of the heavy guns. Aft. The ship's huge engines provide immense thrust at the cost of poor fuel capacity. Flying in rocket mode at full acceleration for a mere 30 minutes will drain the ship's tanks. Underside, showing the undergreebs and 3 VTOL thrusters. Side detail. Cockpit view. The S.P.O.T.'s controls are relatively simple and it has also seen widespread use as a flight trainer.
